Autoimmune presynaptic disorder of neuromuscular junction.

Epidemiology

Varies globally depending on genetics, environment, or exposure.

Etiology & Risk Factors

  • Antibodies against voltage-gated calcium channels, strongly paraneoplastic (Small Cell Lung Cancer).

Clinical Symptoms

  • Proximal muscle weakness that IMPROVES with repeated use
  • dry mouth.

Clinical Approach

Diagnosis

  • EMG (incremental response).

Management

  • Treat underlying cancer
  • 3,4-Diaminopyridine.

Complications

  • Severe weakness
  • respiratory failure.
