Epidemiology

Major cause of morbidity/mortality.

Etiology & Risk Factors

  • Plaque rupture
  • Coronary thrombosis

Clinical Symptoms

  • Crushing chest pain radiating to jaw/arm
  • Dyspnea
  • Nausea
  • Diaphoresis

Clinical Approach

Diagnosis

  • ECG (STEMI vs NSTEMI)
  • Elevated Troponin

Management

  • MONA (Morphine, Oxygen, Nitroglycerin, Aspirin)
  • PCI (Cath lab)

Complications

  • Arrhythmias
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Ventricular free wall rupture
