Bleeding between the dura and arachnoid mater.

Epidemiology

Varies globally depending on genetics, environment, or exposure.

Etiology & Risk Factors

  • Tearing of bridging veins (common in elderly, alcoholics).

Clinical Symptoms

  • Gradual onset of headache
  • confusion
  • focal neurologic deficits over weeks.

Clinical Approach

Diagnosis

  • CT Head (Crescent-shaped hyperdensity crossing suture lines).

Management

  • Surgical evacuation (burr hole).

Complications

  • Coma
  • brain herniation.
