Overview

Definition

Gastrin-secreting tumor (gastrinoma) causing severe acid hypersecretion.

Epidemiology

Varies globally depending on genetics, environment, or exposure.

Etiology & Risk Factors

  • Usually a sporadic tumor in duodenum/pancreas, or MEN 1 syndrome.

Clinical Symptoms

  • Severe
  • refractory peptic ulcers (often multiple or distal)
  • chronic diarrhea.

Clinical Approach

Diagnosis

  • Fasting serum gastrin
  • Secretin stimulation test.

Management

  • High-dose PPIs
  • Surgical resection of tumor.

Complications

  • Perforated peptic ulcer.
