Dosing & Administration

Adult Dose

6 mg rapid IV push, followed by 12 mg if needed.

Pediatric Dose

0.1 mg/kg rapid IV push (max 6 mg), then 0.2 mg/kg if needed.

Renal Adjustment

No adjustment necessary (half-life is < 10 seconds).

Hepatic Adjustment

No adjustment necessary.

Compatible (extremely short half-life).

Contraindications & Adverse Effects

Contraindications

  • 2nd or 3rd degree AV block
  • Sick sinus syndrome
  • Asthma (relative - can cause bronchospasm)

Common Adverse Effects

  • Transient asystole
  • Flushing
  • Chest pain
  • Dyspnea
