Clinical Significance

Acute phase reactant synthesized by the liver. Extremely sensitive but non-specific marker for systemic inflammation.

Causes of High

  • Bacterial infection
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Lupus flare
  • Myocardial infarction
  • Malignancy

Causes of Low

  • Normal finding
