Clinical Significance
Hormone regulating gastric acid secretion. Extremely elevated (>1000 pg/mL) is highly diagnostic of gastrinoma when gastric pH is < 2.0.
Causes of High
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome (Gastrinoma)
- Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) use
- Pernicious anemia (atrophic gastritis)
- G-cell hyperplasia

- Antrectomy
- Normal finding
