Oxygen Saturation (SaO2)

Arterial Blood Gas

Normal Reference Ranges

Adult

95 - 100 %

Pediatric

95 - 100 %

Clinical Significance

The percentage of hemoglobin binding sites occupied by oxygen. Crucial for assessing oxygen delivery to tissues.

Causes of High

  • Supplemental oxygen therapy

Causes of Low

  • Hypoxemia (Pneumonia, ARDS, PE)
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning (falsely normal on pulse ox, but true SaO2 is low)
