Indications

  • Prevention of yellow fever in travelers to endemic zones in Africa/South America.
  • Required for entry into certain countries (ICVP).

Target Ages:

Travelers to endemic areas (9 months to 59 years)

Contraindications & Precautions

Contraindications

  • Severe allergy to eggs or gelatin
  • Immunodeficiency
  • Age < 6 months
  • Thymus disorder

Precautions

  • Adults >= 60 years due to increased risk of severe adverse events.
  • Pregnancy (unless travel is unavoidable).

Rare Adverse Events

  • Yellow fever vaccine-associated neurotropic disease (YEL-AND)
  • Yellow fever vaccine-associated viscerotropic disease (YEL-AVD) - can be fatal.

Clinical Information

Effectiveness

Provides almost 100% protection, usually considered lifelong after a single dose.

Patient Counseling

  • You must receive an official Yellow Fever certificate (Yellow Card) valid 10 days after vaccination.
  • Avoid mosquito bites even after vaccination.
